Nedbank Desert Dash on!

Nedbank announced on Monday that the 2015 Desert Dash is ON!

This follows an agreement between Nedbank and the principal organiser of one of the most exciting cycling races in the country, Aidan de Lange. The essence of the popular race will remain largely the same, as the history of the race has proven to be a hit with cyclists and spectators alike over the years.

At the announcement, Richard Meeks, Nedbank Namibia’s Chief Operating Officer, said the Bank is excited about the prospect of growing the popularity of the race and adding to its ever-growing reputation as an experience not to be missed.

“Nedbank Namibia can surely be considered as the greatest corporate supporter of cycling in Namibia. With the addition of the Desert Dash to our historic Nedbank Cycle Challenge, as well as the road race and mountain bike series, we are quite excited that we now offer all cycling enthusiasts a singular experience every time they participate in a Nedbank-sponsored event,” said Meeks.

De Lange expressed his delight at the fact that the race that he has nurtured to its current eminence now has a new sponsor on board.

“Nedbank Namibia has always shown that it has the development of cycling at its heart. I am excited to see what we can jointly do to make the 2015 Nedbank Desert Dash the best experience ever, given Nedbank’s proficiency at hosting premier cycling races,” said De Lange.

The entry dates for the event, which is takes place on the 11th of December this year, have already been confirmed. They are as follows:

Entries for the Solo Event open on Monday, 31 August at 10:00
Entries for the 2-Man Event open on Friday, 4 September at 10:00
Entries for the 4-Man Event open on Friday, 11 September at 10:00

As always the number of entries is limited, so be prepared as they will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Further announcements and more detailed information regarding the registration process will be made available on the Nedbank Desert Dash website (www.DesertdashNamibia.com) on 18 August 2015.

Cymot Halfway Point

Hello Nedbank Dashers

The Cymot halfway point has grown to be the highlight of the dash-vibe over the last three years.
This is where all the solo support vehicles congregate, together with the 2 men and 4 men teams of course. This is a place for music, for technical support, for commentary (Patrick de Goede will entertain you), food and hot coffee. This is a place where we have up to 200 cars and 1000 people - a real dash village in the Namib !
Please take note (especially you back up drivers) that Cymot will put up proper catering - see below advert for detail. We would like to grow the catering side of the event but need your support. There is no need for Cymot to put in a lot of effort towards catering if it is not being used by enough people.

The Nedbank Green Power Loan is a Nedbank product that helps cycling enthusiasts to buy the bicycles and equipment they really want.

The Green Power Loan covers the purchase of a new mountain or road bike plus helmet and accessories, with repayments of up to 24 months. In conjunction with our country’s premier cycling shops’, the Green Power Loan opens up the world of cycling to everyone.

Terms and Conditions are as follows:

Items to be financed: Bicycle, helmet and accessories
Amount to be financed: Between N$5,000 and N$30,000
Interest rate: Depending on the risk profile, but a minimum rate of
prime (currently 10.25%); maximum in line with Usury act which is prime multiplied by 1.6 (currently 16.4%).
Repayment period: Maximum of 24 months
Disbursement: Direct payments will be made by Nedbank to the suppliers.

Let us firstly thank you all for the tremendous support the Nedbank Desert Dash has received.
As you know all available slots have been taken up in minutes if not seconds.
Our aim is to make this dash the best ever, with a lot of focus on you - the cyclists ! From the starting venue to the water points and the finish line – we, together with our sponsors, are making sure that you get a lot out of this year’s Nedbank desert dash experience.

In the next weeks we will send you regular information about the event itself (rules for instance) and also give a platform to our sponsors. Each newsletter will also be posted on the website.

Sorry for all of you outside of Namibia, or shall I say Windhoek, as you can obviously not take advantage of this. Most of you are cranking up your training heavily at the moment – and wisdom has it that you can only train what you can recover. a Proper sports massage does wonders for the legs. Pre-registration Now Open

Prospective participants can now pre-register for the 2015 Nedbank Desert Dash

The Nedbank Desert Dash registration process has been updated to improve on the usability and fairness of the process.

The platform for registrations has moved to StayToday (under their Events section), which also handles the entries for the Nedbank Cycle Challenge every year.

Prospective participants will need to pre-register for the Nedbank Desert Dash on the StayToday website (see the direct link below). On the day of registration they need to login to the StayToday website with their account details, navigate to the Nedbank Desert Dash entry page and refresh the screen until the “Enter Race” button becomes active at 10:00. They need to push the active entry button as quickly as possible to stand a chance of gaining an entry into the race. Race entries are known to sell out in seconds.

Entries will be allotted on a first come, first served basis. This process will be audited by an independent auditing firm and will be accurate to one 1000th of a second.

Successful entrants will be notified via email and will need to furnish their complete details, or the complete details of their team, and make the required payment within 4.5 hours to validate their entry. If this does not happen, the entry will be disqualified and a position opens up for the first entry on the waiting list, which should then also be validated within 4.5 hours.

Invalid entries will continue to provide opportunities for entries on the waiting list until all positions in the race are filled with valid entries.

Entries to the Desert Dash will only be available through the StayToday online portal: http://www.staytoday.com.na/2015-desert-dash. Prospective participants can already start pre-registering on StayToday. Existing StayToday accounts will also be valid for entering the Nedbank Desert Dash.
